Dreadful Project

Crowd sourced competition to draw a nightmare sponsored by the Brooklyn Sketchbook project, Showtime, and The New Yorker magazine. My work was selected from 1000 entries and was printed in the New Yorker to promote Showtime's Penny Dreadful series.

The Brooklyn Library's Sketchbook project put a call out for a competition to illustration a nightmare. My nightmare, being from Nebraska, are tornadoes. I experienced a F5 in 1975 in Omaha. I have had nightmares about tornadoes ever since. My drawing was selected from 1000 entries to appear in the New Yorker to promote Showtime's new Penny Dreadful series. The drawing had to be completed on a folded card they provided, hence the fold down the middle.
A page from the New Yorker with my illustration and the other 7 winners. May 2014.
Here's the sketch with a little Photoshop retouching to remove most of the sketchbook binding going right down the middle.
