Petunia Letterpress print

Print was made for a printmaking exchange at Marywood University, Scranton, PA. Print was based on sketches I made of my cat. Turned it into a plate and letterpress printed an edition of 30 on heavy Arches watercolor paper.

initials sketches from life
converted to vector line drawing and made into polymer plate
played with the idea of embossing only, decided against it.
experimented with paper options, inks and positioning of figures
30 prints in the edition. Used the Kelsey to print the black ink after printing the gray/silver on the proof press.
final step of embossing P for Petunia on the Showcard press. Decided it needed a 3rd element for balance, variety and eye movement.
Final print on a beautiful Arches watercolor paper.. Intentionally changed the orientation of the cat napping to appear as if floating, as if in a dream state.
